Blog Reboot: Migrating to Publii
I started this blog at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, fueled by good intentions and a desire to share my thoughts with the world. However, despite an enthusiastic start, I found myself failing to maintain the momentum after the initial couple of posts.
This blog was originally setup using Wordpress, the world's most popular CMS for dynamic websites. With its impressive array of plugins and themes, Wordpress has powered countless websites across the globe, enabling users to create dynamic, feature-rich online experiences. Yet, despite its swiss-army-like capabilities, I found the CMS to be a bit of an overkill for the simple blog that I had in mind. This led me on a quest to find an alternative blogging solution and I stumbled upon the concept of static site generators (SSGs), and one in particular caught my attention – Publii. Unlike Wordpress, Publii is a desktop-based SSG, offering a simpler approach tailored for projects like my humble blog.
With Publii's recent version 0.45 release, the platform has matured significantly, boasting a rich set of features perfectly suited for maintaining a static website. The allure of static files lies in their ability to enhance site speed, bolster security, and reduce server load, offering a more efficient alternative to traditional dynamic websites.
Inspired by Publii's promise and the potential benefits of a static website, I decided to reboot my dormant blog by migrating it to this simple, lightweight and yet powerful CMS.
